Hip replacement is a procedure in which the native hip joint is replaced with a prosthetic joint. In India, this is normally indicated in conditions such as arthritis of hip due to various causes, avascular necrosis and also as a treatment of hip fracture. The diagnosis is confirmed based on clinical findings and X rays. In some patients more sophisticated investigations such as CT/MRI scans may be required. Surgery is indicated only when all conservative measures fail.
